Climate Change Panel with WAMC

WAMC / Northeast Public Radio, in partnership with the New York State Writers Institute, will present a special live Roundtable event on climate change Friday, April 20th – Earth Day Weekend. The panel discussion will include former EPA Regional Administrator Judith Enck, Rolling Stone Contributing Editor and best-selling author Jeff Goodell, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Elizabeth Kolbert, and acclaimed naturalist and writer Terry Tempest Williams. The show will be moderated by Roundtable host Joe Donahue and WAMC’s Dr. Alan Chartock. Battenkill Books will have a selection of the authors' books available for sale at this event. 

This special program will take place on Friday, April 20th from 9-11 a.m. at Page Hall Auditorium on the University at Albany downtown campus. It will be broadcast live on WAMC (90.3 FM) and available later that day via podcast.

 Bios:

Judith Enck is a former EPA Regional Administrator; she oversaw environmental protection for EPA Region 2 for seven years in the administration of President Barack Obama. Previously, Enck served as deputy secretary for the environment in the State of New York Office of the Governor and as a policy adviser to the New York State Attorney General. Enck is currently a senior adviser at the Institute for Governance & Sustainable Development. In addition, Enck is an environmental policy expert commentator on WAMC, where she also is a panelist on The Roundtable

Jeff Goodell is a contributing editor at Rolling Stone and a frequent contributor to The New York Times Magazine and Yale University’s Environment 360. He covers environmental issues, including the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, and is the author of the New York Times bestseller Our Story: 77 Hours That Tested Our Friendship and Our Faith. His newest book, The Water Will Come: Rising Seas, Sinking Cities, and the Reshaping of the Civilized World, is an immersive look at the global crisis of rising oceans. 

Elizabeth Kolbert has been a staff writer at The New Yorker since 1999. Previously, she worked at the New York Times, where she wrote the Metro Matters column; from 1988 to 1991, she was the paper’s Albany bureau chief, and, from 1992 to 1997, she was a political and media reporter, and also a contributor to the Times Magazine, where she wrote on subjects ranging from the use of focus groups in elections to the New York water supply. She is the author of The Prophet of Love: And Other Tales of Power and DeceitField Notes from a Catastrophe; and The Sixth Extinction, for which she won the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for general nonfiction.

Terry Tempest Williams is currently a writer-in-residence for the 2017-18 academic year at Harvard Divinity School. She is the award-winning author of more than a dozen books including the environmental literature classic, Refuge: An Unnatural History of Family and Place, Finding Beauty in a Broken World, and When Women Were Birds. Her latest is: The Hour of Land: A Personal Topography of America's National Parks. Her writing has also appeared in The New YorkerThe New York TimesOrion Magazine, and numerous anthologies worldwide as a crucial voice for ecological consciousness and social change.
