About the Author

Paul Crompton has won a number of awards for his work in medical photography, particularly his ophthalmic photography. Crompton's work in teledermatology was recognised in 2011 with awards from both the National Health Service in Wales and the Journal of Visual Communications in Medicine. It also led to membership of a UK Government expert panel on the development of standards in teledermatology in England. Paul is actively involved in the UK's Institute of Medical Illustrators, most recently with respect to the development of curricula for the Government's Modernising Scientific Careers scheme. He has been a judge for both the IMI's Awards and BCA's Salon. In 2014 he was awarded the BCA's Louis Schmidt Award in recognition of his contribution to the profession. Paul continues to teach, contributing to Cardiff University's Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Illustration. Amy Lake is the Lecturer and Programme Manager for the PGC in Medical Illustration. Prior to this, she worked as a Senior Clinical Photographer in the Media Resources Centre, University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, UK. This involved taking photographs to support patient care, teaching, research and publications. She also had the lead role in the training of the annual intake of Trainee Clinical Photographers.
