A Word on eBooks

We love books, just like you. And we’re glad to support reading in any form you prefer. Those of you with electronic eReaders can purchase eBooks via Battenkill Books from Google eBooks.

For the rest of you, we have put together some background information to help you get started and to understand why we are using Google. We have partnered with Google because they provide eBooks in a format that works on a wide variety of readers including your computer and more advanced cell phones.  You choose.  Google eBooks are all about choice. Some eReaders and some eBooks on the market are restrictive to a single format.  But Google’s eBook format (Adobe eBook Platform) provides compatibility with a broad range of reading devices.

Publishers of eBooks make use of something called Digital Rights Management (DRM).  DRM is what inhibits piracy of copyright material in the eBook realm, and there are different flavors of it. Google’s choice for DRM is widely compatible with a variety of eReaders and other devices (such as computers and cell phones).

eReader Reviews & Guides

If you do not yet own an eReader, you have lots of options.  And it can be overwhelming.  A very well crafted review of eReaders is available from Four Chamber which provides more information to help you make a selection. The folks at Google have helpful guides for how to use a variety of readers including all dekstop and laptop computers, iPhones and iPads, Android devices, and the iRiver Story HD with their eBooks. As noted above, earlier versions of the Kindle are not able to display Google eBooks. Great! How Do I Do It?

1. Get your eReader device (see guides and reviews above) and get comfortable with it.

2. You’ll need a Google account. If you don’t have one you can create one free.

3. Go to Google eBooks via Battenkill Books website.  Doing it this way ensures Google is aware that you are a customer of Battenkill Books, and is the only way we get a commission on the sale. You can click on the image below anywhere it appears on our site or in our emails also.

4. Browse or search for titles you want, and complete the purchase.  Here are a few common categories you might want to take a look at:

Once purchased, these titles will now be in your Google eBook Library and can be accessed from any device you have setup to work with Google eBooks (again, see the guides).

5. Take a deep breath, pat yourself on the back, pour a cup of coffee or tea… and dig into your eBook.  And let us know what you think of it.
