Curiosity Forum: Historic Architecture of Rural New York with Marcia Reiss (10/17/10)

Sunday, October 17th, 2010
4 pm
NEW LOCATION: Main Stage, Hubbard Hall
FREE

The historic architecture of Cambridge and Salem has a longer history than meets the eye.  Many of our local buildings reflect styles that trace back centuries to Medieval England, Renaissance Italy and even ancient Greece and Rome.  Local author Marcia Reiss, who has written seven books on architecture and New York history, will unearth the European roots of our quintessential American homes and commercial buildings. The presentation will be illustrated with photos of buildings in and around the villages of Cambridge and Salem, from Colonial timber-frame homes to grand Victorians, Arts and Crafts bungalows, and Sears Catalog houses.

Marcia Reiss’ books are available at Battenkill Books.  Marcia and her husband, Charles, live in Eagleville.

Curiosity Forum events are a partnership of Battenkill Books, Hubbard Hall, and Open Studios of Washington County. Additional support for this event is provided by the Historic Salem Courthouse. All events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted.

Dear readers,
as I am very interested in Marcia Reiss’ work, I’d like to interview her for my my major field of study in English. Our task is to cover a self-chosen topic which has to deal with New York. As I chose the topic ‘ Photography in New York ‘ . As I am a hobby photographer, I am very interested in this topic and it would be great if I could interview Mrs. Reiss by any chance.

With kindest regards,
Tamara Gürtler
